ABOUT MUSEUM WITHOUT WALLS |
"The need has never been greater for this type of community collaboration."
Mary Thomas, Director of the
White Plains YWCA's Kids Connection
Even before our museum doors open, the Westchester Children's Museum is providing educational programs that leverage our hands-on, exploratory approach to engage children in learning experiences that are full of fun and discovery. Our Museum Without Walls programs are currently presented at a variety of sites; most frequently at community centers working with children and families who most need day care and after school services. Many of our programs focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts and include experiments unraveling the mysteries of DNA, exploring the possibilities of alternative energy sources by building
model solar cars, and understanding the complexities of magnetism. Our programs also explore the creative arts, cultural diversity, and history and traditions of our
local communities through interactivities involving storytelling, mask-making, paper-making and scrapbooking. |
OUR TEACHERS |
|
The Westchester Children's Museum's Museum Without Walls programs are delivered by experienced educators and supported by trained volunteers, many of whom are former and current scientists and classroom teachers. Their background of knowledge, expertise and nurturing approach ignite a love for learning and their lessons offer children opportunities to experience the joy of exploration and discovery. |
