About Our High School Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities

Our Playworkers play a vital role in ensuring that Museum visitors get the most out of their visit to the Museum

A Variety of Opportunities for High School Students

As a Playworker:
If you are outgoing and interested in engaging with our young visitors and their adults, join us as a Museum floor Playworker. The Playworkers play a crucial role in facilitating and enhancing the Museum experience for visitors. They are responsible for interacting with the children, facilitating play with our exhibits, ensuring the tidiness of our exhibits, as well as leading daily programs. If volunteers are interested in developing their skills working with children, as well as gaining experience in what it is like to work in a children’s museum, working alongside our team of professional Playworkers will be a very valuable experience. There are many different times shifts we can discuss for your participation to be meaningful.

Working directly with our Educators:
In addition to our interactive exhibits, the Museum offers a wide variety of STEAM-related programs to the general public as well as with schools that visit on Field Trips. You will support our Educators in conducting hands on workshops and activities - during the weekdays with visiting school groups and on the weekends at our Step into STEM Saturday a partnership program with The STEM Alliance or our once a month themed Big Weekend Events, now one of the most popular and highly attended events at the Museum. Volunteers will not be independently teaching our education programs, but will gain a great deal of experience in the ways STEAM can be taught outside of school while engaging with children in a playful learning environment.

We invite you to choose your volunteer path or work with us to combine both experiences.
