Through Community Adventure Play Experiences (CAPEs), Sarah Lawrence College’s Child Development Institute provides children opportunities to initiate and direct their own play using natural, reusable, and recycled materials. CAPEs are play experiences created by children, using “loose parts” such as cardboard boxes, fabric, plastic bottles, tires, sand, wood, and water.
